It is means of giving geographical information. The charts are a universal medium for the communication, easily included/understood and appreciated by the majority of the people, independently of the language or the culture. Incorporated in a chart is arrangement that it is “instantaneous” of an idea, a simple image, a choice of the concepts of a constantly changing data base geographical information (Merriam 1996). The old charts provide many information to the subject afterwards of what was known in a few times, as well as the philosophy and the cultural base of the chart, which were often much different from the modern cartography. The charts are one means by which scientists their ideas distribute and transmit them to future generations. For the medieval period, European charts were dominated by religious sights.
